HONESTY

HONESTY

Honesty is speaking the truth and creating trust in others’ minds. This includes all varieties of communication, both verbal and non-verbal. Honesty implies a lack of deceit. A statement can be strictly true and still be dishonest if the intention of the statement is to deceive its audience ... “ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honesty

Once a college professor in my first class talked about honesty and integrity. He told the story of a boy who worked at a hardware store, a friend of his. It seems that the young man stole money from the cash register. He found it out and fired him. But, because the amount of money stolen was not enough to send him to jail, he sent an email to many people, telling them not to give him work to this person who had stolen.. Not being still satisfied, he sent a letter to a journal of hardware and building materials with the boy‘s picture labeling him as a thief.

The teacher said: "... for two years, the young guy could not find a steady job due to his bad references." Although it was a crime to be sent to jail, the young guy had to lie in order to get food home. The teacher ended up saying ... "One must be honored, not by Christian or moral principles, but by convenience, because a single mistake can haunt you for a lifetime.”

Although this story is related to honesty, the boy in the story, as the teacher told us, had to continually lie to get a job because he had a family (wife and son). The questions are: Does the end justify the means?, Is lying bad to feed your family?, or is honesty the best policy?

I think honesty is always the best way, but there are times when people are forced to lie due to various reasons. In most cases, it is because you want to protect others from pain or from the impact that the truth would produce on them. For example, The tragic death of a child, how will we explain to parents? Will sustain the explanation? Do they want to die too? Lying is always going to be bad, or at least one error, but there are situations that justify it, for example when our lives or our loved ones are in danger.

Of course, do not think wrong;I do not want to encourage lies. The best we can do is being honest with people we love and among us. But while the world ends, we will have to lie sometimes.
