“Self-esteem is a term used in psychology to reflect a person's overall evaluation or appraisal of his or her own worth. Self-esteem encompasses beliefs (for example, "I am competent" or "I am incompetent") and emotions such as triumph, despair, pride and shame. A person's self-esteem may be reflected in their behaviors, such as in assertiveness, shyness, confidence or caution. Self-esteem can apply specifically to a particular dimension (for example, "I believe I am a good writer, and feel proud of that in particular") or have global extent (for example, "I believe I am a good person, and feel proud of myself in general")” ….. WIKIPEDIA Self esteem is crucial in the life, because she’s a cornerstone of a positive attitude and allows being successful, we feel good about ourselves. It’s very important because it affects how you relate to other people, as your family, friends and your-self. It allows you overcome your problem and find all to your potential. “Low self esteem means poor confidence and that also causes a negative thought which means that you are likely to give up easily rather than face challenges. In addition, it has a direct bearing on your happiness and wellbeing”[1].
Self esteem depends on many questions:
How do you see yourself?
How do you feel about your strengths and weaknesses?
Are you comparing yourself to others and ignoring the unique value that you have?
Do you believe you are successful?
Is your job worthwhile? Do others respect what you do? Do you?
What do you think of your social status?
How do you relate to others?
Can you make your own decisions?
Low self esteem comes from a poor self image. Your self image is based on how you see yourself. If you think you are a good, reliable, hardworking, honest or friendly person, and you like what you see when you look in the mirror is could be you have good self esteem. Is different if you believe others look better and dress better than you, or you think they have a better job than your job. But think yourself; does the job you have help you be happy with who you are? Do you think that others in your office respect you?
Low self esteem feeds your negative thinking and causes you to believe the criticism others make of you. You should keep in mind that nobody is perfect and any times they could be criticizer you for jealousy or envy. You need to believe in yourself, in your abilities.
High self-esteem is the best way, without being of course to be condescending. If you have a high level of self esteem you will be confident, happy, highly motivated and have the right attitude to succeed. To achieve this we must be positive (but not Pollyanna’s), understand that life is difficult but to be faced aware of our limitations, defects and above all virtues.
