EDUCATION: NOW, EVERYBODY CAN LEARN!
One of the major global trends is the use of Internet. This web is used in many ways.It is as a source of information about various topics, but it is also a distribution source of pornographic material and a way to defraud and cheat other people. The use that each person gets from Internet depends largely on their personality, knowledge, attitudes, and values. However, there are many children and adolescents, who have access to this dangerous material, such as pornography and graphic violence, among others.
In my opinion, the best use given to Internet is the means of education for the dissemination of useful knowledge to human beings in general. As stated in Wikipedia, on its Web WikiAnswers: “Internet is the greatest tool in helping children and adults understand almost anything in the world known to man; as a result it usually comes with pictures, so people can understand far better by seeing something rather than reading about it”[1].
For schools in general, the web becomes a powerful tool that helps educators in their efforts to teach their students. Depending on the available infrastructure in schools and homes and depending also on knowledge and experience, the capabilities provided by Internet communication can be leveraged through various tools such as the following:
Students can communicate via email with students from other places. In class they can prepare texts, use sound and pictures to be sent via email. They can experience different situations and practice other languages.
Blackboard
There are plenty of interactive platformssuch as Blackboard that allows students to share their experiences, develop common themes through forums or other means to have a continuous discussion of the topics learned in class.
Personal Blogs
This tool of communication contains personal experiences, topics of interest to each. The biggest advantage held by the WEB is its interactive nature; it is easily accessible and has a relatively low operating cost.
I hope that in a near future we can use all these web sites as educational tools to enhance the development of countries and individuals in general.
